While people tend to only focus on varsity sports, I felt it important to report on girls JV soccer as they had an even more successful season. Watching their practice regimen and getting a sense of their team’s community allowed me to better write the story of what made their team work. Gaining insight from head coaches and players gave a different perspective to an otherwise overlooked group. Click here to read Goal Oriented.
Reporting on sports despite their popularity level is important because it can engage and inform students about teams’ success that is not well-known information. Even if the team is not award-winning there is always an angle. Writing on Boy’s tennis was challenging because they had not won a lot at the beginning of the season, so I chose to focus on the relationship between doubles partners and how they prepared for the season.
