While people tend to only focus on varsity sports, I felt it important to report on girls JV soccer as they had an even more successful season. Watching their practice regimen and getting a sense of their team’s community allowed me to better write the story of what made their team work.  Gaining insight from head coaches and players gave a different perspective to an otherwise overlooked group. Reporting on sports despite their popularity level is important because it can engage and inform students about teams’ success that is not well-known information. Even if the team is not award-winning there is always an angle. Writing on Boy’s tennis was challenging because they had not won a lot at the beginning of the season, so I chose to focus on the relationship between doubles partners and how they prepared for the season.
