Commitment to Diversity

As editor-in-chief, I am responsible for keeping track of who is in what stories and making sure the same people are not getting constantly interviewed. As a staff, we keep a master list of students and highlight people frequently used. I also make it my mission to circulate the sports teams or extracurriculars getting featured to ensure every activity has equal representation. This year we have implemented a BEAT system where each writer is in charge of a different group of teachers to see if anything new or exciting is happening to not overlook certain classes. Because of the lack of attention and marketing in girl's sports, I made a policy that there is never a newspaper that goes out without a story about girls in the sports section. Showcasing a diverse set of students is imperative to present the full student experience in our publications.
